Hastings boasts a beautiful level promenade joining the Old Town to the east with the bustling contemporary shopping Town Centre and St Leonards to the west.
The cosmopolitan town of Hastings is also home to the largest beach launched fishing fleet in Europe, the remains of the first castle in England to be built by William the Conqueror and is steeped in history of the battle of 1066 and Cinque Port heritage.
Today, nestling between the East and West Hills, the Old Town is a charming mix of half-timbered houses, narrow streets and passageways, locally known as ‘twittens’. Local museums recall old seafaring days and famous sunken ships as well as the colourful history of smuggling and the impressive tall black ‘net huts’ and Hastings Fish Market offer fresh fish caught daily.
